Children's Museum of Pittsburgh’s YouthALIVE! (Youth Achievement through Learning, Involvement, Volunteering, and Employment) program offers meaningful activities and experiences for kids 10-18 years old that help them discover their potential, develop their talents and abilities and explore their interests.

Summer VolunTEENS

High school students help with community events, work with visitors at the Museum and attend weekly youth workshops that help them learn valuable academic, job and life skills.

Participation in the Summer VolunTEEN Program is highly regarded when considering applicants for paid Youth Employment through Youth Programs at the Museum. (See Youth Employment section below).

OneMinuteJr. Video Program


Summer VolunTEENS in 2010 got to participate in this unique program sponsored by UNICEF and the OneMinuteJr. Foundation to create their own one-minute videos. Check out all of the videos here:


YouthALIVE!

The program provides a secure and nurturing environment for kids and teens to explore fields such as teaching, writing, the creative arts, mentoring and more. Activities are designed to instill confidence and increase participants' responsibility and productivity, leading them towards career opportunities and future success.

The Museum's YouthALIVE! program has welcomed hundreds of children into the Museum family since 1994.

YouthALIVE! Programs at the Museum include:

Afterschool Club

Students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades at Pittsburgh Allegheny 6 - 8 A Traditional Academy, participate in hands-on educational programs three days a week after school. The activity focus in the Afterschool Club is on making paper, printmaking, teaching communication skills, science, math, social studies, reading, and writing through artistic mediums.

Students also participate in outreach programs that benefit our local community and take field trips to special events.

ALL EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES OFFERED THROUGH THE AFTERSCHOOL CLUB ARE FREE TO STUDENTS.

The 2009-2010 Afterschool Club began on Tuesday, October 13. 2009.


Mentors

YouthALIVE! mentors are eleventh and twelfth-grade students who assist in planning activities for the Afterschool Club and serve as role models for our younger YA! participants.


YouthALIVE! Internships

Internships are available for university and college students to work with the YouthALIVE! programs. Most internships are unpaid, but students may receive credit for participating.

Internships are also available for high school students to work with the YouthALIVE! programs in conjunction with their participating schools.

Youth Employment

This is an opportunity for employment through Youth Programs at the Museum. Youth employees participate in job readiness workshops covering topics such as communication skills, workplace etiquette, resumes, professional correspondences, applications and interviews.

Mentors

Youth Programs Center

This area is a safe, creative place where teens can gather, find resources and attend workshops on job and school readiness and life skills.
